A Criminal Defense Attorney You Can Count On
I’m Ira M. Schechter, Attorney at Law, and I focus my career on helping people overcome criminal accusations so they can get their lives back. As a Louisville-based criminal defense attorney with more than 30 years of experience, I know Kentucky courts, and I will work hard to defend you.
Below are just some areas in which I practice and the services I provide:

Amending Felonies To Misdemeanors
District Courts in Kentucky have a limited ability to address felonies. Once a felony case gets to a Circuit Court, it’s much harder to amend or reduce the charge. That’s why it is all the more important to have a skilled criminal law attorney on your side in District Court so your case doesn’t go to Circuit. I have extensive experience appearing in District and Circuit Courts throughout Jefferson County.
Bond Reduction
If you’re in jail awaiting trial and feel that the judge set your bond too high, you may have grounds to seek a reduction. I can review your situation and help you pursue a more reasonable bond amount so you don’t have to be stuck behind bars before you’ve even been convicted.
Shock Probation
If you’re already serving a prison sentence, you might be eligible to get “shock probation” after approximately 30 days. It depends on the type of offense. Call me at 502-234-2600 for a free consultation about whether you or a loved one may qualify for shock probation.
In Danger Of Getting Probation Revoked?
If you’re on probation and get served with a “Motion to Revoke Probation,” your freedom is in jeopardy. You could lose your probationary status and end up behind bars. It’s important to treat the allegations with the same seriousness as you would the original charge. I have extensive experience defending people against probation revocation.
Expungements: Getting A Clean Criminal Record
If you already have a conviction, arrest or charge on your record, it may be holding you back in life. Expungement permanently deletes all records of any case you faced in the past from your state’s records. Many misdemeanors and certain felonies can be expunged after a certain time period. I can evaluate whether you’re eligible for expungement. If so, I can handle the process for you – including all the paperwork – so you can move on with your life.
